a failed hunt, new leads, and more to come

well, readers. my hunt this past week was a tragic failure.

i followed those mothman sightings over to new jersey, but wasn't really hopeful despite it all. i'd never heard of him coming out of mount pleasant, and i probably should have just taken that and ran with it instead of getting my hopes up.

epic fail, as the kids say.

a couple of promising threads looked like they might turn something up, but it really doesn't feel like mothman. for one, he doesn't have feathers, he's a bug. i half wonder if someone was trying to play a prank on me when they emailed me about that lead. but only time will tell.

if anyone's in the new jersey area and can offer some more insight, or maybe more evidence towards it actually being mothman, maybe i can revisit this case at some point. but for the time being, i think it's just a poorly written out prank from some high schoolers trying to give their town a name.

i specifically didn't name the town, but that's because i'm not too keen on giving search results over to the 'quirkiest town' on the east coast if someone manages to find their way over to this blog.

all of the marks that the 'cryptid' left behind had the same strange magical signature on it, like someone who had come by and left things out as treats. i didn't touch anything, no need to be followed even further, but i think if anyone else goes through the rabbit hole that was set up they'd be easily traced. i have handled my share of tracking spells and location spells, and i'd really rather not go through the attempts to wipe those from me again. it always feels like they stick.

the only thing of note was the crime scene, at a little diner in the middle of nothing. the police won't speak, but i didn't expect them to. it's all a mess, and i don't want to give them any reason to suspect me when i'm trying to fly under the radar. something about a heart attack. oh well, if anyone knows anything, shoot me an email. i'll keep you all up to date on what i learn

sorry, readers, for the short and sad update. i know we all wanted things to get a little more lively here, but i'm hoping they will in the coming weeks. i should be headed west no matter what i'm tracking. and maybe some of you will be investigating with me.

as always,
stay safe and stay hidden
